The Professional Casino Gambler

Author: David Walker

The professional casino gambler can walk into a casino and everybody knows he is there. He is flamboyant in his own right but not too obvious and he doesn't seem to notice.

The person I am describing here has been bless with more luck than any punter has ever experienced or deserves. He usually heads to the craps table but he never touches the dice himself. If the table is quiet when he arrives, his cry of 'Let's get this party started' will certainly lighten the mood and whip everyone into a frenzy.

His every twitch, hand gesture and movement is watched by the casino. When he plays the sportsbook, he can literally move lines. This is because he will pack a million dollars into seven or eight briefcases and send his friends scurrying throughout Las Vegas to place the wagers. Vegas knows it, the casinos know it but he is still able to spread his money all over town unchallenged.

The hosts love the professional gambler and if he is in full 'gambling mode' they will gladly send a plane to pick him up half way across the country or even half way across the world. He is the big fish that attracts interest from other gamblers and when he plays, he will cost a casino hundreds of thousands of dollars and possibly even more than that.

In ten years of knowing this man, I have only seen him lose once. I am sure he has lost more than that but I witnessed it once in spectacular fashion. While most normal gamblers would be reaching for a noose at the prospect of losing so much money in such a short space of time, he, on the other hand, did not seem too concerned as he boarded the plane home.

He just patted his wife on the back and said with a knowing smile: 'this time I can't buy you that oceanfront mansion, but next time baby, you'll have it'.

I met his wife that day and she revealed to me the sting in the tail. You see, there is never a 'next time' with the professional gambler, only a much larger bet or investment. He has never stopped to reap and enjoy the rewards of a mammoth win. Further bets just get bigger and the promises more lucrative but ultimately more distant.

That is the life of the true Gambling Man.
